I own several of Dan Siegel's CDs, including this one, and they are all gems. With hundreds of high-quality competitors in the genre, Mr. Siegel is definitely at the top of the smooth jazz heap. This collection is proof of that. I just wish that finding his older albums wasn't so difficult, or I'd own all of his works.

A prolific and respected pianist, composer and producer, Dan Siegel's recording career began with the release of his first recording in 1980. Born in Seattle, Washington, and raised in Eugene, Oregon, Dan began piano lessons at age eight, and started performing professionally as lead singer and guitar player in a rock band at the age of 12. He holds degrees in Music Composition and Jazz Studies, and studied piano in Boston with the legendary Madam Challoff.
On "What Gives," Siegel textures his speedy piano melody with a throbbing, percussive groove and insistent wah-wah guitar licks from Allen Hinds. Rob Bacon's guitar adds subtlety to "From the Heart," a track that recalls Siegel's best piano-sax interactions of yore. For long-time Siegel fans, this collection will prove a good gathering of golden oldies. Surely, though, new fans will join the flock once a few of the new cuts get airplay.
