Softly with These Songs: The Best of Roberta Flack. Softly with These Songs: The Best of Roberta Flack is Roberta Flack's third compilation album and was released in 1993. The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face". Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow". performed by Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway. Killing Me Softly with His Song". Feel Like Makin' Love". The Closer I Get to You". More Than Everything".

Roberta Flack is a 1978 album release by American vocalist Roberta Flack: her eighth album release - including her 1972 Donny Hathaway collaboration - Roberta Flack was the parent album of the Adult Contemporary hit "If Ever I See You Again" which also ranked in the Top 40. Since signing with Atlantic Records in 1968 Flack had overall abided by her original contract's terms of recording an album every two years: however Roberta Flack was recorded for release barely six months after Flack's.

Roberta Flack was blessed with one of the loveliest, most soothing voices in the music industry. In the 1970s, she not only appealed to pop and R&B audiences, but also fit in with the era's more serious, sensitive singer/songwriters. She scored some of the decade's biggest hits with classics such as "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," "Killing Me Softly with His Song," and "Feel Like Making Love," as well as her legendary duets with Donny Hathaway, all which have gone on to become standards in the pop pantheon

The very next year, 'Killing Me Softly with His Song', took the same prize, and also hit This is a must-have collection that spotlights Flack's masterful song interpretation and rich emotional resonance. The song for which Flack is invariably remembered is the majestic "Killing Me Softly", a tribute to singer Don McClean. It is a silken, strange and wonderfully unsentimental piece. On other tracks too, Flack reveals her distance from her peers. Things get a bit rough after the 70s, as Flack worked on more mainstream music collaborations. There are duets with reggae star Maxi Priest ("Set The Night To Music"), and Peabo Bryson in the histrionic "Tonight I Celebrate My Love". Most regrettable is "Uh-uh Ooh-ooh Look Out (Here It Comes)", Flack's vocal caressing spliced unforgivably into a whistle-and-bleep house mix by Steve Hurley. Yuck! Still, the first half dozen tracks make this album more than worth a spin. Norah, Katie, Joss: listen and learn.
