777 - The Desanctification" captures the shocking aftermath of mankind's liberation from the constraints of culture, history and superstition - he is freed of idols but now stands alone in a massive, empty universe. Devoid of emotion; without purpose or reason. It's a terrifying place to be, yet, as modern man, we all reside here. And so comes to pass the second chapter in BLUT AUS NORD's "777" trilogy - "The Desanctification". Having prophesised impending disaster on the predecessor, "777 - Sect(s)", BLUT AUS NORD moves deeper into a nightmare realm, . This new work illustrates the precise moment when man finds himself embraced in frightening, almost unbearable solitude in a deconstructed world void of all material and spiritual elements.

Blut aus Nord's dark 777 trilogy continues with The Desanctification, and I definitely am not as impressed with it as I was with Sect(s). Though the freaky, nightmarish atmosphere is brought over from the other album, the schizophrenic quality is not and this album is a good bit weaker because of it. It's still a good album, but it's close to the ass end of the BaN quality spectrum which, though not meaning good news for The Desanctification in its own right, is still a statement that even Blut aus Nord's worst album are still really solid
Perhaps this is the moment when the thing that actually does matter- you know, Blut Aus Nord's music, captured here in a so-far, so-perfect trilogy- will supplant Vindsval's lack of indie rock-ready gestures, like press photos or Scion showcases.
Blut Aus Nord has claimed that this album takes the listener 'deeper into the nightmare realm', and to a certain extent, this is true. Although the music isn't all too different, there is a somewhat looser approach to the performance and composition this time around, lending itself more to disturbing atmosphere than the head-scratching black metal that dominated parts of the first album. 777 - The Desanctification" is the 10th full-length studio album by French black metal act Blut aus Nord. The album was released through Debemur Morti Productions in November 2011. The band have been quite busy lately as they also released "777 - Sect(s)" in April 2011. 777 - The Desanctification" is the second album in a triology of albums that started with "777 - Sect(s) (2011)" and ended with "777 - Cosmosophy (2012)".
Predictably, expectations were high. The first volley, 777: Sect(s), featured a six-track suite in which all tracks were entitled "Epitome. It was a brutal, blastbeat-laden assault that sounded as if it were recorded live in the studio.
Blut Aus Nord have fallen victim to this trap twice now, and while they managed to claw their way back to the surface with the strength of several arrangements in 777 - Sect(s), their footholds have eroded and they have tumbled right back in on 777 - The Desanctication. Lumbering, egregious meandering guitars cloaked in dissonance are the norm here, and 777 - The Desanctication would end up nearly bereft of merit if it wasn’t for the inclusion of various melodies scattered throughout the album. Much of what Blut Aus Nord do right on 777 - The Desanctication could be built upon to make the album more than what it turned out to be. It is easy to be left confused when the band presents the bases for buildups that never come into fruition, or when the vocals come and go as they please like a ghost in the fog.
