The Contortionist : Intrinsic,альбом, рецезия, трек-лист, mp3, тексты песен. Like I said before, The Contortionist are getting more experimental and progressive with each release. The reason I say that is because the content of this album is so fucking complex that it’s taken me a little over a month to fully be able to swallow and dissect it all. Yes, that’s the magnitude of the complexity this record contains.

The album as a whole is also downright schizophrenic throughout its course. The contrast between the loud and the soft is unreal. When The Contortionist play softly, it’s the most beautiful, rich, and gripping ambient ecstasy of a rare sort. When they turn brutal, it’s gut-wrenching, intestine-twisting, and skeletal-fracturing fury. It’s very rare to hear a band create such contrast with such potency. Geocentric Confusion is the best song on this album, the most successful number of the Intrinsic experiment. The brutality is at an all-time high here, with The Contortionist caving in your skull with some of the most twisted and cacophonic beat downs they’ve ever done. The small melodic bits compliment the rest well, for the sake of providing contrast, but in this case, they actually fit together. The song doesn’t rely on elty to the extent the others previous have.

Although The Contortionist’s debut album Exoplanet was a progressive deathcore success that nobody anticipated, the gears have shifted vastly since 2010 to prompt the creation of Intrinsic. The album features a more prominently progressive landscape, nudging the earth-shattering deathcore moments to the side to fit between pockets of tranquil ambiance.

It's hard to describe the feeling of hearing this album for the first time

The Contortionist’s latest, highly anticipated album Intrinsic was released on July 17 via Good Fight Records. I first heard of this band a few months after the release of their debut Exoplanet. Later in 2011, I saw these guys on the Frak The Gods tour and their set was nothing short of perfection. With Intrinsic, this Indiana 5-piece really steps up their game. Like Periphery, The Contortionist took a lighter approach with their sophomore album, cutting back on the Deathcore elements found on Exoplanet. In fact, the first track titled Holomovement may very well be the lightest song.

Warped time signatures, percussive mathematics, spider-fingered fretwork, dazzlingly atmospheric keyboards and immediately arresting vocals collide within THE CONTORTIONIST, who have achieved a career defining milestone with a sophomore slump defying feat of agility dubbed Intrinsic. The Indiana based prog-metal alchemists conjure the kinetic texture of RUSH, the cinematic musicality of DREAM THEATER, the heavy but heady metallic might of jazzy death wizards CYNIC and the studied experimental precision of BETWEEN THE BURIED AND.
