Survivor is the eponymous debut album by American rock band Survivor, recorded in 1979 and released in February 1980. It is their only album with original drummer Gary Smith and bassist Dennis Keith Johnson. The recording sessions, overseen by A&R executive John Kalodner, were not without difficulties. First Ron Nevison replaced Barry Mraz as producer, and then the project had to be taken to Bruce Fairbairn in Vancouver to achieve a mix that was to Kalodner's satisfaction.

This song is by Chicory Tip and appears on the compilation album The singles collection (2007). I was born a motherless childI was born right in DecemberAnd the only thing I rememberWas growing up all alone. Without love or friends to help meThe odds were high against meBut I kept on fightingAnd I made it on my own. 'Cause I'm a survivor, survivor, survivorNo, no, no one puts me downI'm a survivor, survivor, survivorNo, no, no.

Most of the tracks - like "Move On, " "Memory," and "Friend of Mine" - sound like the Hollies did during the mid-'70s: acoustic guitars, lush harmonies, and a vaguely country-rock bent. It isn't a terrible sound for a band to have, and songs like "Join Our Gang," their cover of CCR's "Lodi," and "Me and Stan Foley" are enjoyable; their later work just pales in comparison to their early genius. This is the best Chicory Tip compilation on the market; until someone reissues the Son of My Father LP, you should get a hold.

The ultimate game of survival.
