Jack Johnson (also known as A Tribute to Jack Johnson on reissues) is a studio album and soundtrack by American jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Miles Davis. It was released on February 24, 1971, by Columbia Records. The album was conceived by Davis for Bill Cayton's documentary of the same name, on the life of boxer Jack Johnson. Its two 25-minute-plus tracks were produced from recordings made on February 18 and April 7, 1970, at 30th Street Studio in New York City

Davis was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, but he relocated with his family to Chicago at the age of two. Seven years later he had lost his sight. In his early years Davis backed Merline Johnson, and by his mid-twenties he was a well known and reliable accompanying pianist. Between 1937 and 1942, Davis recorded with Big Bill Broonzy, Sonny Boy Williamson I, Tampa Red, Merline Johnson, and others, playing on many recordings of that time. The best live albums of all time capture the very essence of a band’s energy in concert, making you feel like you were actually there. Live And Dangerous was also a big hit and U2 claim the album as an early influence. 9: Johnny Cash: At Folsom Prison (1968). The album has everything a heavy metal fan could want: from Gene Simmons, The Demon, pounding away on bass, to Paul Stanley’s guitar antics and Peter Criss’ driving drum work.
