Loveless was a Boston-based indie rock band. Releasing records on Q Division Records, the band was composed of Dave Wanamaker and Pete Armata, both of the 1990s rock band Expanding Man, Jen Trynin, and Tom Polce from Letters to Cleo. The band formed as a project by Wanamaker and Armata in 1999. They both recruited Polce to play drums, and Wanamaker successfully included Trynin in a guitar-playing/ back-up vocalist role.
Loveless is the second studio album by Irish rock band My Bloody Valentine, released on 4 November 1991 by Creation Records. The album was recorded over a two-year period between 1989 and 1991. Vocalist and guitarist Kevin Shields dominated the arduous recording process; intent on achieving a particular sound, he experimented with guitar tremolo techniques and tuning systems, unorthodox production methods, obscured vocals, and sampled percussion and feedback. My Bloody Valentine were scheduled to record at Blackwing Studios in Southwark, London for the month of February 1989, and intended to use the time to conceptualise a new, more studio-based sound for their second album. Shields said that Creation first believed the album could be recorded "in five days".
It’s perhaps the first and last songs where the influence is most notable though. Open’ sways and seesaws in a way not unlike Loveless opener ‘Only Shallow’, while ‘End’ ensures the album is bookended with a nod to MBV. 2Smashing Pumpkins – Siamese Dream (1993). When shoegaze meets grunge. Billy Corgan’s appreciation of Kevin Shields’ craft saw him introduce a little more abstraction into their 1993 album, and a desire to create a ‘left ear, right ear’ effect that would confuse and astound the listener
Men cry not for themselves, but for their comrades. Tagline, quoting LOVELESS. LOVELESS is an epic from the world of Final Fantasy VII that has made several cameo appearances in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII and plays a major role in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-. Originating as a book of poetry, the story has been adapted into a play and has a street named after it in Midgar. The story focuses around three men who set out on a quest to find the fabled "Gift of the Goddess"
Loveless is overwhelming, with Shields and Bilinda Butcher's guitars and voices blending into each other until they become a distant orchestra, the rhythm section striding in majestic lockstep, and occasional bursts of dance rhythms (as on the single "Soon") buoying the live instruments' warp and drift. Furiously loud but seductive rather than aggressive, the album flows like a lava stream from one track into another, subsuming everything in the mix into its blissful roar, and pulsing like a lover's body. Loveless is one of the top five most important albums to come into my life, actually probably the most important. This album is hugely influential to the history of music and also to myself personally. This band is just so important, and this album is simply one of the best ever. I would not need to go to another concert in my life if I could see them live.
