Jani Lane (February 1, 1964 – August 11, 2011) was an American recording artist and the lead vocalist, frontman, lyricist and main songwriter for the glam metal band Warrant. From Hollywood, California, the band experienced success from 1989–1996 with five albums reaching international sales of over 10 million. Lane left Warrant in 2004 and again in 2008 after a brief reunion.
Five years after his death, Jani Lane, the voice many associate with Warrant, is back with a set of cover songs and a new album called Catch a Falling Star via Deadline Music. This album is a compilation of his work since leaving Warrant in 2004 and will be released on February 26, 2016. Catch A Falling Star has Lane covering songs by such diverse artists as Cheap Trick, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, and Led Zeppelin and features guests like Jake E Lee (Badlands, Red Dragon Cartel), Chris Holmes (. and Warrant’s Eric Turner
In a genre of music where survival of the fittest is not just a cliché but a way of life, Jani Lane embodied the spirit of a decade of excess, hedonism, and rock & roll. As the lead singer of Warrant, he helped to propel the band into the upper stratosphere with such hits as "Heaven," "Down Boys," and "Cherry Pi. Born John Kennedy Oswald in Ohio, he played in several local metal bands in the late '70s before landing in Los Angeles in the mid-'80s. His band Plain Jane became a staple on the wild .

Jani Lane, the voice of Warrant, passed away in 2011, much to the dismay of fans all around the world. The voice of so many classic hard rock hits, it was definitely a blow in the world of music to lose this talented singer far before his time. While people will forever associate him with Warrant, Lane actually teamed up with a number of other musicians over the years, covering various tracks for tribute albums, with artists spanning a number of rock genres and eras
In his 47 years, Jani Lane amassed an amazing body of work that has yet to be properly anthologized, and this disc is an attempt to collect the pieces the singer covered for various tribute albums. There were more than nine cuts gathered here, yet Catch A Falling Star focuses on the ones pertaining to Jani’s chosen genre. Still, what with hard rock’s lack of homogeneity, Lane’s handling of other artists’ catalogues resulted in a mixed bag of performances.
Jani Lane’s cover versions are to be included in a posthumous compilation album titled Catch A Falling Star. The record will be released on February 26th, and includes Lane’s versions of UFO’s Doctor, Doctor, Def Leppard’s Photograph and Bon Jovi’s Lay Your Hands On Me. The late ex-Warrant frontman’s bandmates, guitarist Erik Turner, bassist Jerry Dixon and former drummer Bobby Borg all perform on the album. It also features guest appearances from Alice Cooper, singer Ryan Roxie and former . P guitarist Chris Holmes.
