Brahms composed for symphony orchestra, chamber ensembles, piano, organ, and voice and chorus. A virtuoso pianist, he premiered many of his own works. He worked with some of the leading performers of his time, including the pianist Clara Schumann and the violinist Joseph Joachim (the three were close friends). As Johann Jakob prospered, the family moved over the years to ever better accommodation in Hamburg. Johannes Brahms was born in 1833; his sister Elisabeth (Elise) had been born in 1831 and a younger brother Fritz Friedrich (Fritz) was born in 1835. Fritz also became a pianist; overshadowed by his brother, he emigrated to Caracas in 1867, and later returned to.

Blending high passion and archaicism, Johannes Brahms’ 4th symphony is an endlessly fascinating and moving work, travelling from the ocean-like waves of emotion in the opening allegro to the coloristic extension of fugue-like writing in the andante, the playful presto and the grand architectural finale. Brahms’ deep understanding of baroque music is in the symphony absorbed into a sweeping romantic style, a style projected through some of the world’s loveliest melodies
Tommy is a 1972 album, based on the original 1969 album by The Who, featuring the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Measham, of arrangements by Wil Malone. The project was conceived by Lou Reizner, initially with Rod Stewart singing Roger Daltrey's main role. As Pete Townshend and Daltrey became more involved, Stewart's role was reduced to singing "Pinball Wizard".

The Utah Symphony (then the Utah State Symphony Orchestra) gave its first concert in Salt Lake City on May 8, 1940, conducted by Hans Henriot. Henriot led the orchestra as Music Director until the end of World War II, followed by the brief tenure of Werner Janssen (1946–1947). The Utah Symphony became recognized as a leading American ensemble largely through the efforts of Maurice Abravanel, Music Director from 1947 to 1979. During his tenure, the orchestra undertook four International tours and released more than 100 recordings. Varujan Kojian’s tenure brought recordings of works by Berlioz, Brahms and Liszt in addition to a number of film scores. Joseph Silverstein made over a dozen recordings during his 15 seasons as Music Director, often appearing as both soloist and conductor.
