The album is very digestible by Nine Inch Nails standards (13 Tracks, 56 minutes), but suffers from a lack of consistency. One of the beautiful ones: The Hand That Feeds is by all measurables a traditional rock song, but it’s a great one. What the track sacrifices in the band’s classic distortion is more than made up for by its brilliant writing and vicious chorus. Crown of shit: Sultry and afflicted, The Lovers is a scopic piece of music, tethering an unsettling spoken poem to yearning, prolonged vocalizations with an anxious, yet coercive atmosphere. What helps build that atmosphere is the remarkable use of the sound manipulation machine The Luminist Garden, which amplifies the tension in the song, helping the sound reveal brutal emotion as startling as it is endearing.

It was released on April 17, 1995 as a promotional single from the album. The song received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Song in 1996, but ultimately lost to Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know".

On tour: no. Upcoming 2019 concerts: none. The performance opened with the glitchy, repetitive Copy of A from the new album, before pushing the decibels up a bit with Santified″. Nine Inch Nails were kicking ass as a band when I was 2 years old. They're STILL blowing out my eardrums and making my eyes bleed from all the awesome that is their concerts. Trent Reznor is a god, period.

The final chorus is extended, featuring a reversed string loop.
