Death Letter", also known as "Death Letter Blues", is the signature song of the Delta blues musician Son House. It is structured upon House's earlier recording "My Black Mama, Part 2" from 1930. House's 1965 performance was on a metal-bodied National resonator guitar using a copper slide.

Father of Folk Blues presented him to the public during the 60s folk revival. The roughness of his voice and intensity of the metal sounds from his guitar are prominent on the album. Nine tracks which can be considered as gems and all telling the story of a hard working man and the intrigues of life. The blues comes alive in subjects as women, religion, war and crime. The album features guitarist and harmonica player Al Wilson, a founding member of Canned Heat. This release is an original 1965 re-issue. During his early 20s Son House turned to the blues after working as a preacher and pastor.
After being rediscovered by the folk-blues community in the early '60s, Son House rose to the occasion and recorded this magnificent set of performances. Allowed to stretch out past the shorter running time of the original 78s, House turns in wonderful, steaming performances of some of his best-known material.
Eddie James "Son" House, Jr. (March 21, 1902 (?) – October 19, 1988) near Clarksdale, Mississippi was an American blues singer and guitarist, noted for his highly emotional style of singing and slide guitar playing.
