2009 reissue of this album from the '60s rocker. Naked But Not Dead was the second release on his own Seeds and Stems label, first issued in 1980. Although famed as an R&B singer who grew up in Detroit, on this set of nine songs Ryder explores a range of musical influences, including Reggae and Punk Rock. At heart, Mitch remains a Soul singer, who grew up under the influence of his Tamla Motown heroes

Mitch Ryder (b. William S. Levise, J. February 26, 1945) is an American musician who has recorded more than two dozen albums over more than four decades. Ryder is noted for his gruff, wailing singing style and his dynamic stage performances. He was influenced by his father, a musician. As a teenager, Ryder sang backup with a black soul-music group known as the Peps, but racial animosities interfered with his continued presence in the group.

This late-'70s offering finds Ryder in good form, recorded in Detroit and sporting his regular working band at the time, featuring long timers Mark Gugeon on bass and Wilson Owens on drums. It's the usual strong mix of Ryder originals, with the finger pointedness of "Ain't Nobody White," "War," "Spittin' Lizards," "Hometown," and "True Love" as must-listen recommendations.

After traumatic teenager success with the Detroit Wheels in the Sixties, he spent some years regaining his health and confidence. The result was the formation of a new band and a brace of new albums. Naked But Not Dead’ was the second release on his own Seeds and Stems label, first issued in 1980.
