Anacrusis (2). Manic Impressions ‎(Cass, Album, Unofficial). referencing Manic Impressions, LP, Album, ZORRO 23. While I personally find it a stretch to consider this "Prog" it definitely contains some interesting ideas and varying tempos than may usually be found in Thrash metal. The vocalist goes from sounding like the guy in Killing Joke to a scratchy, high pitched screech not far from what I'd imagine a cat caught in a blender might sound like.

Yet these compositions tend to cohere extremely well with few distinguishable 'sections' per se, more of an ebb and flow of light and darkness (or, more aptly, grey and black). No Anacrusis album sounds the same. They were always changing and moving forward. This surely hurt their potential for popularity, but they were true artists and the metal world is lacking since their departure.

Manic Impressions is a significant step forward from Anacrusis' first two albums, tightening and focusing the songwriting and honing their instrumental work to a razor-sharp edge. That alone would be enough to make them stand out in the progressive metal subgenre - often criticized for the same excesses as '70s progressive rock, substituting technical flash and aimless "extended" structures for substance and songcraft - but what's even more impressive is the emotional depth of the album
