Voice of World Control is a logical extension of Terrorvision. Most tracks are eminently danceable, with soundclips thrown in to enhance the slightly ominous atmosphere (think Front 242 with less singing). Cars alumnus Gregg Hawkes is brought in for production duties this time out. Special female guest vocalist slot on this album is filled by Anneli Drecker, from labelmates Bel Canto.

I was already moving away from the aggro-dust-post-industrial of the Frontline Assembly Skinny Puppy Front 242 1980s EBM (Electronic Body Music) when Manufacture's quite impressive debut album "Terrorvision" came out, and so by the time "World Control" surfaced, it needed to be quite impressive in order to retain my interest, especially in the era where the aggro-dust started to become more seriously pop-oriented. "World Control" would probably please hardcore fans of "Terrorvision" although I myself found it unfortunately too clean and pop, and predictable to retain my interest for long. The title track, the somewhat brooding "My Destiny", and "Many Machines" (and its slow-motion clone "Pain Amplifier") are worth a few repeated listens but with electro pop tunes like "New Decisions" and "Control Yourself" trying to cash in on the "As The End Draws Near" crowd, "World Control" was unfortunately nothing more than a fun, temporary diversion of sorts, with a few choice sound bytes and sample bits to keep the old school science-fiction fan in me grinning, but as a whole, this second offering from the Boston duo feels too much like a company-comissioned studio contract than an actual musical acheivement. It is not without its well deserved merits, and in fact is flawless in every aspect of its production, it just felt, to me at least, already passed its prime when it was released.

Agreed. It almost feels too "considered" in its approach, as if it's carefully constructed to appeal to certain types of listener, rather than a more natural expression of the musicians involved. Carpentry, perhaps, rather than sculpture. That said, I enjoy it—but it doesn't earn any sort of praise.
