Imagine is the second studio album by John Lennon after his departure from the Beatles. Recorded and released in 1971, the album's musical arrangements are more elaborate compared to the basic, small-group arrangements of his first album, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. Imagine is the most popular of Lennon's solo albums and the title track is considered by many to be one of Lennon's finest songs. In 2012, the album was voted 80th on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

Imagine: John Lennon is a soundtrack album of popular music compiled for the 1988 documentary film Imagine: John Lennon from songs written or co-written by John Lennon.

Imagine is the second album by John Lennon. Recorded and released in 1971, the album is more heavily produced in contrast to the basic, raw arrangements of his previous album, the critically acclaimed John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. The album is considered the most popular of his works. The title track is considered one of Lennon's finest songs. In 2012, Imagine was voted 80th on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

The album Imagine was after Plastic Ono. I call it Plastic Ono with chocolate coating. John Lennon, 1980 All We Are Saying, David Sheff. Imagine begins with the title track, John Lennon's most famous song. If Imagine was an attempt to reach beyond the political norms, Crippled Inside, Jealous Guy, It's So Hard and How? returned to the personal introspection of John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band.

After the primal-scream therapy of Plastic Ono Band, John Lennon softened up and opened up on his second solo album. There is still the stinging Gimme Some Truth and Lennon’s evisceration of Paul McCartney, How Do You Sleep? – both featuring George Harrison on guitar. But there is also the aching soul of John Lennon and the irresistible vulnerability of Oh Yoko! Imagine is self-consciously luminescent, pointedly embraceable, the sound of cynicism melting.

Imagine may be a double album, but as it turns out, 21 tracks barely scratches the surface of a catalog as deep as Lennon's, especially if it attempts to cover both band and solo recordings. That means, of course, that many great songs - particularly early singles like "Cold Turkey" and "Instant Karma" - are missing.
