Helen Merrill is the debut studio album by vocalist Helen Merrill, on which she's accompanied by trumpeter Clifford Brown in arrangements by the young Quincy Jones. Brown had recorded a somewhat similar album with Sarah Vaughan only a few days previously, on December 16 and 18, 1954. In 1995, on the fortieth anniversary of this debut album, Merrill recorded a tribute album to Brown, who had been killed in a car crash in 1956, the year after their collaborative album was released.

The Nearness of You is the fifth studio album by Helen Merrill. It includes performances of standards from two sessions with completely different lineups of accompanying musicians. The later session from February 21, 1958, features very notable jazz performers such as pianist Bill Evans and bassist Oscar Pettiford. Bye Bye Blackbird" (Mort Dixon, Al Henderson) - 2:57. When the Sun Comes Out" (Harold Arlen, Ted Koehler) - 4:47. I Remember You" (Johnny Mercer, Victor Schertzinger) - 2:11.

Helen Merrill (born Jelena Ana Milcetic July 21, 1930) is an American jazz vocalist. Her first album, the eponymous 1955 release Helen Merrill, was an immediate success and associated her with the first generation of bebop jazz musicians. After a prolific 1950s and '60s when she recorded with Charlie Parker and Clifford Brown, Merrill spent time recording and touring in Europe and Japan, falling into obscurity in the United States.
