More Songs About Buildings and Food is the second studio album by American rock band Talking Heads, released on July 14, 1978 by Sire Records. It was the first of three albums produced by collaborator Brian Eno, and saw the band move toward a danceable style, crossing singer David Byrne's unusual delivery with new emphasis on the rhythm section composed of bassist Tina Weymouth and drummer Chris Frantz.

Response to Somber songs 2006-12-09 22:28:03. I only heard Mad World in Donny Darko. I hate that movie now though, because it's fallen into the category of Edward Scissorhands and the Nightmare Before Christmas. They were good movies until all the trendwhore goth cunts ruined it. You've finally made it home. Draped in the flag that you fell for. And so it goes - the ashes of the wake. Or bestest album evar? Full of those so called "Somber Songs". Member since: Aug. 30, 2002. Through the first nine tracks, More Songs was the successor to 77, which would not have earned it landmark status or made it the commercial breakthrough it became. It was the last two songs that pushed the album over those hurdles. First there was an inspired cover of Al Green's "Take Me to the River"; released as a single, it made the Top 40 and pushed the album to gold-record status.

But it’s through songs like this one that he transcends even that. Flirted With You All My Life is sobering, addressing death directly: Oh death, oh death, oh death, Really, I’m not ready. It relates his own experience with dying, whether through his lifelong flirtation with suicide or his mother’s battle with cancer, and it’s that honesty paired with Chesnutt’s colorful past that will make you question and almost certainly cry-in public, for the public or for life’s adventure in general. Carried by a somber piano melody and underscored by Jessee’s subdued drumming, it manages to sound serene in spite of the emotional turmoil behind each of Folds’ troublesome scenes.

The songs are mostly sung acapella and solo but even when there is accompaniment it is spare and intense. There are a couple of albums that, in my opinion, are among the most somber and melancholy albums ever produced. First on the list is Nick Drake’s third album Pink Moon. Another album on my list is Code Purple - Andrew Neil. This is the only album ever produced in which all the songs were written and recorded in State Psychiatric Hospital. The artist was hospitalized for three years after being found not guilty by reason of insanity for stabbing his brother through the arm during a psychotic episode.
