Argybargy (1980), the band's third album, was also a UK hit. It was additionally a mild breakthrough in North America, as the single "Another Nail in My Heart" was a No. 56 hit in Canada, and second single "Pulling Mussels (from the Shell)" received airplay on US rock radio stations. Keyboardist Jools Holland left the band for a solo career in 1980. Squeeze re-formed to play a one night charity gig in 1985, with all five members from the 1980 Argybargy period-Difford, Tilbrook, Holland, Lavis, and Bentley. The performance was such a success that the band unanimously agreed to resume recording and touring as Squeeze.
Squeeze is the self-titled debut album released by British group Squeeze. The album title was simply Squeeze in the United Kingdom, but in the United States, Canada, Australia and other countries the album, like the band, was marketed under the name . Squeeze to avoid confusion with similarly-named American and Australian groups. The LP was produced by John Cale, except for "Take Me I'm Yours" and "Bang Bang" (also the only singles released from the LP). Those songs were produced by the band.

While some Squeeze fans would choose 1981's East Side Story as Squeeze's best album, I'd opt for Argybargy. For me, no one makes pop like the Brits, and Argybargy plays like an 80's new wave radio station's greatest hits collection. Filled with unusual song structures (sometimes the songs sound slightly inside out) and lyrics that tell simple stories, the album is 11 songs worth of pure pop heaven. It starts out with a bang with two of the band's most popular songs, "Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)" and "Another Nail in My Heart.
