The Iron City Houserockers were from Pittsburgh. Where in the late 1970s, when these guys were trying to make it happen, you could always count on seeing news footage of men standing around barrels with fire coming out of them waiting for someone to put them to work. I don't think there's a greater symbol for man's misery than this image. Suffering in the cold, waiting for the "good luck" to go, and doing some back-breaking work for eight hours. There's got to be a better way. 21) "Working on the Road," Ten Years After. How ironic that Elvis Costello would open his first album with a song welcoming you to the world that he was leaving behind. It's like he wanted to rub our noses in it. He decided he didn't want to work in an office anymore, so he became a rock star. Watch Out (Eddie Britt, Joe Grushecky, Gil Snyder) - 4:18. Blood on the Bricks (Joe Grushecky) - 4:19. A Fool's Advice (Joe Grushecky) - 5:11.

Iron City Houserockers. The band was formed in 1976 by guitarist/song writer Joe Grushecky from Irwin, Pa, who was working as a special education teacher and bassist Art Nardini, a University of Pittsburgh student. Both were working class Pittsburghers. Their third album Blood on the Bricks released on MCA in 1983 was produced by Steve Cropper (of Booker T. s and the Blues Brothers) The Houserockers went on a national tour highlighted by an appearance on the Solid Gold TV show. After that album they dropped "Iron City" from their name becoming the "Houserockers" to have a less regional image. Marc Reisman and Ned Rankin left the band. Ron Bird Foster, formerly of the Roy Buchanan band and the Silencers joined them on drums.

Joe Grushecky (born Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is a rock musician in the United States known for his work with the Iron City Houserockers in the late 1970s and early 1980s; and for his works since the late the 1980s with his act Joe Grushecky and The Houserockers; and for his solo career. After his days with the Iron City Houserockers he continued to have moderate success, mainly in the Pittsburgh area.
