One of The Smiths' crown jewels is Morrissey's witty lyricism. His words are enough to upset you and make you chuckle at the same time. On "You've Got Everything Now", he sings, "No I've never had a job because I've never wanted on. as he broods over the fact that he has been surpassed by those around him financially and socially. Despite Morrissey's tongue-in-cheek deliveries, his voice carries an air of exhaustion

No Smiths album has such a consistently excellent tracklist. People talk about the range and ambition of The Queen is Dead, but MIM is classic Smiths: corporal punishment, back-seat affairs, thwarted ambition, unrequited love and, if you've got the US version, seven-and-a-half minutes of existentialist genius in the shimmering shuffle of How Soon is Now? That's all Morrissey. Marr has stated the influence of his own repeat listening at the time, The White Album, but it has more the feel of an Abbey Road: four disparate people knowing their journey has reached its end, with its regrets and victories. With themes of death, dying and murder dovetailing with the finality of the dark, bitter and smirking title, it carries the band out on a funeral pyre, as we mourn what's been lost and what should forever be celebrated. Which is the greatest album by the Smiths? 12%. The Smiths.

Nalinee spoke with Cuepoint about select images from the new volume. Photos and descriptions by Nalinee Darmrong. That’s the guitar that he lent to Noel Gallagher from Oasis for the recording of their first album Definitely Maybe. So they finished the album and Oasis went on tour. After some weird incident in which it was broken over the head of a fan or something - I really don’t know all the details - but Johnny heard about it and got an identical guitar to give to Noel to finish the tour. Mike Joyce is on the left, the guy in the middle was Johnny’s guitar tech Phil Powell, and on the end is Andy Rourke. This was Washington .

Even Mozza's career has waned into boozy middle age. by contrast, their music together has transcended generations. The Smiths are true icons.
