Because Bob Dylan is so hugely and quixotically himself, he is able to fill all the space the talking blues affords with unmistakable originality. In this piece, for example, he has singularly distilled the way we all wish away our end, thermonuclear or "natural. This album, in sum, is the protean Bob Dylan as of the time of the recording. By the next recording, there will be more new songs and insights and experiences.

Commonly regarded as the worst album in Bob Dylan's catalog, Dylan is a collection of nine outtakes from the Self Portrait album Columbia assembled after the singer briefly jumped ship for David Geffen's fledgling Asylum Records. Dylan didn't want the record to be released, and it's easy to see why - the album is a collection of covers that are poorly performed on purpose
When Bob Dylan finally took the stage it was with about as much ceremony as a roadie who mistakes the stage door for the bathroom. Sporting the prototypical black suit, Dylan evoked several of his own past incarnations, from outlaw to prophet, from preacher to the man in the long black coat. But as he began to perform, the anonymity was swept aside, and he was once again the original troubadour – reinventing his songs in the image of the moment.
