The Thrill of It All is the second studio album by English singer and songwriter Sam Smith. On 6 October 2017, Smith announced via Twitter that his second album, titled "The Thrill of It All", was to be released on 3 November 2017. It is Smith's second full album of material after his hugely successful debut album In the Lonely Hour (2014), which has sold 12 million copies worldwide.
Sam Smith's breakout moment as a deep house don on Disclosure's "Latch," arguably the sexiest club banger of 2012, was a feint. Sure, dude could sing. Where Lonely Hour led with beats, Thrill of It All opens on lonely piano chords and Smith’s whispering high tenor, which sweeps up to falsetto on the pre-chorus, soon echoed by a choir and handclaps. The song, Too Good at Goodbyes, has gotten over 120 million YouTube plays since its release as a single, and establishes the ruling formula for album, one which Smith laid out on his biggest hit Stay With Me – an aching lover pleading with a paramour against slow-building gospel-pop rapture
Sam Smith is an old soul with an easily bruised heart. He’s looking for radiant, cinematic love, the kind that springs from a meet-cute at the supermarket when you reach for a can of soup and happen to bump into the man of your dreams. He knows what it’s like to yearn for someone who barely notices you’re alive. He’s well acquainted with romantic desperation, the kind of pitiable state where you betray everything you believe in because you’re just so lonely. His new album, The Thrill of It All, leans on the same strengths that made In the Lonely Hour one of this decade’s most successful debuts. His voice is an ocean liner that can turn on a dime; his ballads are built around mournful piano melodies and fleshed out with choral arrangements; he doles out feelings in bushels.
Sam Smith is ready for his close-up. The singer released the title of his eagerly anticipated second album on Friday morning (Oct. 6), The Thrill of it All, due out Nov. 3, along with the arresting cover image: a black and white close-up of his stubble-covered face. Smith will appear as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend and he dropped a new single, "Pray," to get fans hyped for the performance. The track was co-produced by Smith's longtime collaborator, Jimmy Napes, who worked on the album's 10 songs alongside other producers including Malay, Jason "Poo Bear" Boyd and Stargate. Unsigned singer YEBBA is featured on the song "No Peace. Smith will hit the road next summer for an extensive North American arena tour that will kick off with a June 18 show at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
Sam Smith scores his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, as The Thrill of It All debuts atop the list. The set earned 237,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Nov. 9, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 185,000 were in traditional album sales. It follows his debut studio set, In the Lonely Hour, which debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the July 5, 2014-dated chart". A&R By Jo Charrington & Nick Raphael.

Additional Information Holy Father, we need to talk/I have a secret that I can’t keep. Though it’s the first line of the fiery standout HIM, it’s a sentiment that sets the tone for The Thrill of It All, a diary-like album that has all the power and intimacy of a confession-as well as the catharsis that follows. Smith’s voice sounds as impressive as ever throughout. Burning is a spare, piano-led ballad inspired by the personal struggles that accompanied his breakthrough success
The Line of Best Fit. The Thrill of it All is a stark portrayal of the life of a 20-something who has been thrust into the spotlight and intensely scrutinised, and lays the emotions that come with it bare. The universal themes of love and heartbreak might seem outdated to some; however, Smith’s rich tone with his signature breathiness enables all listeners to relate, as there is a true element of yearning in his voice in every song.
