Neil Young is the self-titled debut studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young following his departure from Buffalo Springfield in 1968, issued on Reprise Records. Some sources place the album's release date on January 22, 1969, while other sources have the release date as Young's 23rd birthday, November 12, 1968. It was then partially remixed and re-released in November 1969, but at no time has the album ever charted on the Billboard 200.
Neil Young is currently in the studio with Crazy Horse recording their first LP since guitarist Frank Poncho Sampedro retired and Nils Lofgren came back into the fold to replace him. It’s unclear when that album will be ready, but Young says that his unreleased 1975 LP Homegrown will be his next archival release after TUSCALOOSA. TUSCALOOSA Track List. Neil Young to Release 1976 Live Album ‘Songs for Judy’. Archival album documents solo acoustic performances from his fabled fall ’76 tour. By. Simon Vozick-Levinson. Neil Young announced his plan to release Songs for Judy, a live album drawn from his November 1976 . The 22-song LP includes solo acoustic performances of all-time classics like Heart of Gold, After the Gold Rush and The Needle and the Damage Done, along with a number of rarer selections, including one song, No One Seems to Know, that has not appeared on any previous official release. Recorded at his November 22nd, 1976 show at Boston’s Music Hall, it’s a pristine performance of the politically puzzling ballad ( Even Richard Nixon has got soul ), which would see its first release the following year on his three-LP greatest hits set Decade.
When Neil Young came to the Citi Performing Arts Center’s Wang Theatre on Sunday for the first of two sold-out shows, he was full of surprises. The older Neil Young gets, the wilier he becomes. You know what to expect with most of his peers, but not with Young. At 68, he lives for the curveball. Young balances big rock records like 2012’s epic Psychedelic Pill, a collaboration with Crazy Horse, with more intimate affairs, including this year’s A Letter Home, a collection of cover songs he made in a tiny recording booth at Jack White’s Third Man Records in Nashville. His live shows are anyone’s guess, too. He is at home in arenas as much as theaters. His last headlining gig in Boston was at TD Garden with Crazy Horse in 2012.
Neil Young’s November 1976 performances with Crazy Horse are the source of the upcoming live album Songs For Judy, which was announced on Friday and comes out on November 30. The live album culled exclusively from the solo sets Young played before being joined onstage by drummer Ralph Molina, bassist Billy Talbot and t Frank Sampedro to close out the shows.
But when Neil Young joined the late night host on the show this week, Fallon really showed his talent in what was not a comedic performance at all, but a rather touching one. Check out the video below of Jimmy Fallon performing Old Man as Neil Young in a duet with (the real) Neil Young. This isn’t the first time Fallon has impersonated Young; he staged his own CSNY reunion performance last year with Crosby, Stills and Nash when the group performed an Iggy Azalea cover on the show.
