Mareridt is an extraordinarily beautiful, ambitious and enable album that largely succeeds due to Bruun’s exceptional talent. NOTE: Myrkur is Danish for Nightmare ; Mareridt is Icelandic for darkness. Reply Notify me Helpful.
Myrkur resides in a grey area. In one hand, she paints the typical bleak features of Norwegian Black metal into the landscape of her sophomore album, Mareridt. Sewn together by textures of horns, strings and bleak, oceanic waves of tremolo guitar shrouded in lo-fi production, Elleskudt and Måneblôt projects feelings of ominousness and grim triumph. On the other hand, she contrasts these heavier aspects with pearly atmospheric singing, gentle melodies and subtly climactic vocal harmonies throughout the album.
Except, ironically, that Mareridt by Myrkur is anything but your average black metal album. Myrkur’s a controversial figure in the underground metal scene but I’ve always had a lot of respect for her. She does whatever the hell she wants with the genre and seems impervious to derision which, to me, is metal as fuck. At the end, Myrkur stuck around to sign copies of the new album and - contrary to the brooding figure in the mist that adorns the cover of M –was extremely friendly, happy to talk to everyone and in no rush at all (and, for the benefit of particularly vain sad sacks like me, was cool with having photos taken).
M is the debut studio album by black metal project Myrkur, by Danish musician and singer-songwriter Amalie Bruun. Produced by Kristoffer "Garm" Rygg of Ulver, it was released on 21 August 2015 through Relapse Records. Featuring a black and gothic metal sound, the album melds influences from various genres, including second wave black metal, atmospheric post-metal, gothic, darkwave, Scandinavian folk and classical music. The album was named the Best Hard Rock Album of 2015 by Gaffa.
Released September 15, 2017. Mareridt (translation: Nightmare) is the highly anticipated sophomore full-length from renowned Danish composer and t Myrkur. Recorded between Copenhagen and Seattle with producer Randall Dunn (Marissa Nadler, Earth, Sunn O))), Boris, Wolves in the Throne Room), Mareridt is a rich juxtaposition of the dark and the light; the moon and the mother earth; the witch and the saint.
I think the guest appearance by Chelsea Wolfe is a fitting tell for what you're in for on this album: Experimental folk with a heavy black metal influence

The mysticism of Myrkur creates an eerie mood that builds from serene white light to a dark brutal scream and energy reminiscent of a banshee. This in mind, the second studio album, Mareridt, promises to continue the journey of this unique act. Set for release Friday, Sept 15th, 2017 via Relapse Records, Mareridt is beautifully mastered with such mystery and grace enhanced by magic of a spiritual and dark nature combined.
