Frédéric Nogray‘s Vaccabons Et Malfactours concludes the third season of the La Rivière project, based on Cédric Peyronnet’s recordings of the Taurion River. In the ensuing three years, 18 artists have offered their own takes on the source material. Nogray works and with crystal singing bowls. The music in this mini-CD-R is limited run of 50 copies based on sounds recorded in the river Taurion (Limousin, in the center part of France) by Cédric Peyronnet.
Frédéric Nogray is a self-taught musician, improviser and composer since 1999. He pays a particular attention on sounds in their intrinsic qualities and for what they are: vibratory phenomenon. But also for their broadcasting into the listening space, our perceptions on it, and the various states of consciousness induced by the listening that led us in the intimacy of the sound, into our own intimacy.
Complete your Frédéric Nogray collection. But the go-to piece in this trio is Frédéric Nogray’s wuritagu, a set of field recordings made around a Honduran lake. We last encountered the artist six months ago with Vaccabons Et Malfactours, which was his contribution to the series La Rivière. His instincts continue to be sharp on this new recording. Culled from hours of recordings made during different times of day, wuritagu is a perfect example of saying more by showing less. Few 20-minute periods would present such variety of sound, so it’s up to Nogray to cut, reassemble and layer

FRÉDÉRIC NOGRAY (Kaon) Circle wind. HIROKI SASAJIMA (Felt Collective) Strata. TARAB -Eamon Sprod- (Unfathomless). When I first heard ‘Gustavo’ from this album, I felt like I’d just watched an incredible film. One of those early 90s Indie ones I seemed to live for back in the day & truthfully, still do. I was really taken aback by it & when I heard the whole album, I was not disappointed. Maybe it was hearing him singing in a new context, without the cyclical fingerpicking (which I absolutely love, mind) or maybe it was the fact that the songs all seem to have their own narrative. It made me listen to him with fresh ears.
