For more than a decade, Michal Hromek has been widely acclaimed for his guitar renditions of Celtic themes and other ancient melodies from the British Isles. In 1990 he released his debut album Celtic Guitar, which won high praise and sold well both in the Czech Republic and abroad. This album features a selection of the best that he recorded for the Bonton and Sony/Bonton labels, as well as a new bonus track recorded especially for Supraphon Music. Melodic folk roots, performing experience and the passion of the musicians, Hromek's love for this music, and his singular talent for sharing it with others make this compilation an extraordinary treasure. Michal Hromek studied classical guitar at the Pardubice Conservatory. In his own compositions, in which he utilises not only solo guitar but also various chamber ensembles, you can find traces of classical, folk, jazz and acoustic rock music but also strong influence of Rennaisance lute pieces and other Early Music styles.
