Picchio dal Pozzo are an Italian progressive rock band formed in Genoa in 1976. The activity of Picchio dal Pozzo has been quite erratic, with five albums published over a period of about 40 years (1976-2011). The style of the band is quite unconventional for the Italian progressive rock scene, showing influences of both Canterbury scene and jazz rock/avantgarde acts (including Soft Machine, Henry Cow, and Frank Zappa).

PICCHIO DAL POZZO are considered to be one of the very few "Canterbury" inspired bands that emerged from Italy's fertile 1970's progressive rock musical scene. The sextet known as "Picchio dal Pozzo" surges forth via romantically melodic overtones, swiftly implemented time signatures and jazzy interplay in concert with the proverbial peaks, valleys, knotty twists and circuitous turns.

Album by Picchio dal Pozzo. La Floricultura di Tschincinnata. MusicBrainz: Picchio dal Pozzo.

Picchio dal Pozzo is the debut album by the Italian progressive rock band Picchio dal Pozzo, released in 1976. The album was released on vinyl in 1976 by Grog, a record label founded by Aldo De Scalzi Ligurian, leader of the group. It is a work in its own right in the panorama of Italian progressive, which is similar in some ways to the style of groups of so-called Canterbury scene as Soft Machine and Gong.

Originally released in 1976, this, Picchio Dal Pozzo debut, album deserves its reputation as an essential component for people interested in the Canterbury Sound. Along with Holland's Supersister, Italy's Picchio Dal Pozzo is a fine example of non UK Canterbury Sound and this self titled album is their finest. If you like Wyatt's Rock Bottom, Soft Machine 2 through 5, Hatfield and the North, Supersister's To The Highest Bidder and Present From Nancy this will fit right in.
