Harry J - Return of the Liquidator. Includes the original version of the Liquidator, a vocal version, & a version made a year or two later, slightly different. All 3 are great & obviously crucial tracks for any reggae collector. The rest of both CD's are both full of great tunes, so I highly recommend this album. Best-selling in CDs. See all.
This Trojan collection combines producer Harry Johnson's (aka Harry J) Hammond organ-driven, all-instrumental Liquidator album from 1969 with a generous selection of his rock steady and early reggae singles. Liquidator spotlights Harry J's stomping beat sound on a set of smart, Ramsey Lewis-inspired originals and jazzed-up rock steady covers of Stevie Wonder's "My Cherie Amour" and the Beatles' "Don't Let Me Down. The group's rhythm tracks for Liquidator find new life on some of the late rock steady and early reggae vocal sides here, including Marcia Griffiths' "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" and Bob Andy's "Peace of Mind. Other singles include Tony Scott's beautiful falsetto numbers "Darling If You Leave Me" and " What Am I to Do" and Carl Bryan's incredible alto saxophone vehicle "Soul Scorcher.
But Alton Ellis has said that the core of the song was a lift from his rocksteady hit "Girl I've Got a Date".
