How Great Thou Art" is a Christian hymn based on a Swedish traditional melody and a poem written by Carl Boberg (1859–1940) in Mönsterås, Sweden in 1885. It was translated into German and then into Russian. It was translated into English from the Russian by English missionary Stuart K. Hine, who also added two original verses of his own. It was popularised by George Beverly Shea and Cliff Barrows during the Billy Graham crusades

Daddy Sang Bass (Carl Perkins). Less of Me" (Glen Campbell). The Things God Gave Me" (Don Reid).

How Great Thou Art is a stripped-down collection of gospel standards, performed only on guitar, piano and, occasionally, upright bass. Apart from two new songs from Willie Nelson, the album consists entirely of traditional gospel material, such as "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. Nelson offers no revelations over the course of How Great Thou Art, but it is a pleasing, idiosyncratic country gospel record.
