Tredici Bacci with Gary Wilson. Like a tired gunslinger slowly approaching their final shootout at the edge of a desert basin, Tredici Bacci are preparing to unveil their first full length, Amore Per Tutti, this week. The -invoking miniature orchestra, led by composer Simon Hanes (or Luxardo, if you’re feeling fancy), has assembled a body of work ready to soundtrack your most widescreen-ready and/or glamorously weary old world fantasies, enlisting to the big band the vocal talents of such chanteuses and chansons as JG Thirwell (Foetus), Jennifer Charles. Like licorice and salmon, the combination of Tredici Bacci and Gary Wilson is an unusual flavor combination that somehow pairs beautifully, Hanes’s rococo ensemble lending Technicolor gravitas to Wilson’s still-visionary, mind-altering songwriting - all thankfully preserved at the studios of the fabled, spiritually compatible radio station WFMU.
The illustrious Gary Wilson has joined forces with Simon Hanes’ torial brainbaby Tredici Bacci, whose bossa nova funk genius provides a perfect backdrop for his incensed lyrical machinations. Bass and keys fire off like a freshly opened bottle of seltzer, the rhythmic pairing floating in ether over a jazzy drum kit. Other melodic accompaniments reveal themselves more gradually, cool-hand saxophone and lovely backing vocals crescendoing like a meteorite’s shimmering entry into the atmosphere
Totally great live LP by Gary Wilson (the world's forgotten boy) with a cover photo that makes him look like a dead ringer for the late Mike Kelley, back when Mike was a fake hippie. Anyway, Gary shouldn't need much of an introduction. The tunes on this album are representative of the live set Gary's been doing lately, with a heavy emphasis on tracks originally recorded around the time of his 1977 breakout LP, You Think You Really Know Me (FTR 236LP). What lifts things to a higher-than-usual level is the lovely musical backing provided by Tredici Bacci. This New York City unit formed to perform classic-era faux Italian film music, but they really find their own special place as Gary's backing group.
via FMA, Gary Wilson and Tredici Bacci, Live on WFMU with Marty McSorley, 9/23/2016 Over the last few years, the young musician and composer Simon Hanes has worked tirelessly to channel his deep love and infatuation with 1960’s/1970’s soundtrack music into his own personal vision and homage to the style through dedicated songwriting, and the integration of the. totality of his musical influences.
