Christopher Paul Curtis (born May 10, 1953) is an American writer of children's books. He is known for the Newbery Medal-winning Bud, Not Buddy and The Watsons Go to Birmingham – 1963. The latter was adapted for a TV movie of the same name, which aired on the Hallmark Channel in 2013. Chris Paul Curtis was born in Flint, Michigan, on May 10, 1953, to Dr. Herman Elmer Curtis, a chiropodist and factory worker/supervisor, and Leslie Jane Curtis, an educator. He has set many of his books in Flint.

Paul Surtees, 61, from Billingham, Teesside, has revealed how he found his wife Norma, 61, (main) in the Riu Palace Hotel (bottom) swimming pool while in Cape Verde. Mr Surtees (inset) said he suspects his wife of almost 20 years 'accidentally fell in' while on the way to the bathroom. He explained how Mrs Surtees had a 'history of problems with her balance'. The community in Billingham have since raised £9,000 to help bring mother-of-two Mrs Surtees home.
