As we reported on Monday, Dexys Midnight Runners – or Dexys, as the band now prefer to be known – have started work on their new album, which is expected to be released in 2012.
Drawing on Rowland Irish and UK roots, the album is a combination of Dexys interpretations of Irish songs and other UK and American compositions, which feflect the duality of his roots - the six Irish songs reflect the influence of Rowland parentage, while the Britsish and American songs that feature along side them refelct Rowland's upbringing and and subsequesnt life in Britain. These arent cover versions, theyre personal interpreations. To me its a very important distinction - its the difference between a photograph and a painting.

Kevin Rowland in 2012. Background information. 17 August 1953 (age 65) Wednesfield, Wolverhampton, England. When Dexys disbanded in 1987, Rowland recorded a solo album, The Wanderer, which, together with its three singles, was a commercial failure. His next release was not until 1999 when he recorded a collection of interpretations of classic songs called My Beauty, the album cover of which depicted a heavily made-up Rowland in a dress and women's lingerie.
But the album does reflect Rowland's growing appeal in the global market, which should receive a bump from her forthcoming role as a judge on Simon Cowell's British music competition show "The X Factor" and the internationally released trance and dubstep-influenced single "Down for Whatever," produced by RedOne. Rowland will appear on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" on July 29, and she's hoping to play a smattering of domestic dates this summer. International tour plans are postponed until the top of 2012, after the upcoming season of "X Factor" has concluded. Meanwhile, Rowland attributes her heretofore unseen solo success as much to those around her as to her own talents.
Good Rocking Tonight is a compilation album by the blues musician Roy Brown. Released by Route 66 Records in 1978 in mono as KIX-6, and is a follow-up to an earlier release titled Laughing But Crying (KIX-2). This album's subtitle is "Legendary Recordings, Vol 2 (1947–1954)". In 2003, Rowland reformed Dexys Midnight Runners-featuring only one other original member, bassist Pete Williams who fulfilled the role as Rowland's co-vocalist-and embarked on a successful comeback tour backed up with a greatest hits compilation album including two newly recorded songs, "Manhood" and "My Life in England". Both of these new songs were radio tested by the record label, but neither received enough airplay to be considered for release
