The discography of Pink Floyd, a British progressive rock band, consists of fifteen studio albums, three live albums, nine compilation albums, four box sets, five extended plays, and twenty-seven singles. Formed in 1965, Pink Floyd initially earned recognition for their psychedelic or space rock music, and, as they evolved, for their progressive rock music. They are known for philosophical lyrics, sonic experimentation, innovative cover art, and elaborate live shows.
Relics, Pink Floyd's first compilation album, includes singles, B-sides, tracks from their first three albums The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, A Saucerful of Secrets and More. Also, the then-previously unreleased Roger Waters song, Biding My Time, recorded in July 1969 and first released on Relics in May 1971. Relics was the first album to include Arnold Layne and See Emily Play, which previously had only been released as singles, and the original studio recording of Careful with That Axe, Eugene, the B-side of Point Me At The Sky in 1968
Fun Floyd Fact 40044: Pink Floyd had put out a compilation record only 4 years after their debut. Fun Floyd Fact 40045: That compilation record is Relics. After their first album, and first album to achieve Gold status (the much hated Atom Heart Mother), EMI records jumped at the chance to milk the success. Despite having only two hit singles, not releasing any since 1968, they put out Relics. EMI were smart however, as to not label it as a Best Of or Greatest Hits, because really, they are only two as said before.
