Beniamino Gigli (pronounced ; 20 March 1890 – 30 November 1957) was an Italian opera singer. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest tenors of his generation. Gigli was born in Recanati, in the Marche, the son of a shoemaker who loved opera. His parents did not, however, view music as a secure career. Beniamino's brother Lorenzo became a famous Italian painter.

Beniamino Gigli March 20, 1890 – November 30, 1957) was an Italian opera singer. The most famous tenor of his generation, he was renowned internationally for the great beauty of his voice and the soundness of his vocal technique. Music critics sometimes took him to task, however, for what was perceived to be the over-emotionalism of his interpretations. The late Edgar Herbert-Caesari, who was a fellow student in Rome in the early 1900's, talked about the highest notes "rocking". For my money, on the evidence of this concert, and despite the phrasing at times needing more breaths, the top of his voice was there. Very few singers can sustain a career at the top for 40 years plus. He sang technically well and in the right repertoire. It's better than rocket science-it's common sense!
