Kim Duk-Koo (January 8, 1959 – November 18, 1982) was a South Korean boxer who died following a world championship boxing match against Ray Mancini. His death sparked a number of reforms in the sport aimed to better protect the health of fighters, including reducing the number of rounds in championship bouts from 15 to 12. Kim was born in Gangwon Province, South Korea, 100 miles east of Seoul, the youngest of five children. His father died when he was two and his mother married three more times

Duk Koo Kim. This song is by Mark Kozelek and appears on the album Little Drummer Boy Live (2006) and on the album Nights LP (2008). This song is a cover of "Duk Koo Kim" by Sun Kil Moon. Looking out on my roof last nightWoken up from a dreamI saw a typhoon coming in closeBringing the clouds down to the sea. Making the world look gray and aloneTaking all light from my viewKeeping everyone inAnd keeping me here with you. Around you nowI can't sleep no more, babyAround you stillDon't want to leave yet.

On this 14 minute epic, Mark Kozelek contemplates love, life and death. Written By Mark Kozelek. Bass Geoff Stanfield & Jerry Vessel. Percussion David Revelli.

True to form, Mark Kozelek reinterprets these songs with a wide berth. Acoustic and alone for the live versions of "Michigan" and "Drop," he digs deep into the material's emotive nature. With just the wonder of his powerful voice, he transforms the songs into epic performances. Heron Blue," from the Sun Kil Moon album April, sounds more direct in demo form. Leo and Luna" appeared on the compilation See You on the Moon: Songs for Kids of All Ages

Duk Koo Kim - instrumental (Red House Painters cover). Mark Kozelek and Jimmy LaValle - By The Time That I Awoke. Kim's Funeral-Part 8. Extract Chords. Mark Kozelek - New Jersey (Live).
