To sum up in a few lines the fundamental restitution performed by Suzanne Haïk Vantoura – the Hebraic Bible (the Old Testament) is in its entirety an immense vocal score; the musical signs are indeed notated on either side of the Hebrew text, but these signs had become as hermetically sealed as Egyptian hieroglyphics before the work of Champollion. Leaving aside the empirical interpretations practised up to the present day (and for many centuries) in the synagogues, Suzanne Haïk Vantoura scrutinised only the Biblical signs. Besides the rigorous method needed to direct such an enterprise, this deciphering required the sensitivity of a musician (Suzanne Haïk Vantoura is actually a composer) to rediscover the patterns of a lost music and to check constantly the foundation of musical expression contained in that ancient notation.
