Mahler: Symphony No. 5, Karajan, Berliner Philharmoniker. Mahler: Symphony No. 9. Gustav Mahler. Herbert von Karajan made a studio recording of the Ninth with the Berlin Philharmonic that appeared in 1981, but he was apparently dissatisfied with it and pressed for this remake, recorded at a performance during the Berlin Festival Weeks of 1982.

Symphony No. 9 by Gustav Mahler was written between 1908 and 1909, and was the last symphony that he completed. It is actually his tenth symphony, as Mahler gave no ordinal number to his symphony with voices Das Lied von der Erde. A typical performance takes about 75 to 90 minutes. Though the work is often described as being in the key of D major, the tonal scheme of the symphony as a whole is progressive. While the opening movement is in D major, the finale is in D♭ major.

Album · 2017 · 60 Songs. Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, Op. 125 "Choral". By Ludwig van Beethoven. 2. Symphony N. In D Minor, O. 25 - "Choral": 1. Allegro ma non troppo, un poco maestoso. 16. In D: 1. Herbert von Karajan, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

The live recordings of Mahler's Ninth Symphony that Simon Rattle's predecessors as music director of the Berlin Philharmonic, Herbert von Karajan and Claudio Abbado, both made in the Philharmonie in Berlin, rank among the greatest readings of the work on disc.
