Necroshine is the 10th studio album released by the thrash metal band Overkill in early 1999, on CMC International records. It is the first Overkill album to feature a guest vocalist, with singer Blitz's sister Mary Ellsworth performing background vocals on "Let Us Prey" and a duet with Blitz on "Revelation". The title track is an almost permanent addition to Overkill's live set, being played at almost every live performance since its release.
Overkill's 1999 release Necroshine is both a raw and mildly experimental release for the New York thrash veterans. The slightly stripped-down production may have been intended to harken back to the group's '80s glory days, but after a few significant lineup changes and noticeable (but not necessarily extensive) musical evolution there really was no turning back for the group, especially when considering that they hadn't gone very far in the first place.
With this album Overkill helps keep thrash alive after their 7 year or so slump. They proove with this album that a popular thrash band from the United States in the 80's can still make great albums. Merits of this album such as great consitency, moments of greatness, loads of attitude, and it being the heaviest Overkill album up to the point of this album(1999), make this the perfect come back album. The highpoint of this album is the great opening track Necroshine. After the progressive/ambient intro to the song, the song pulls you right into headbanging with a great thrashy riff thats pretty heavy for Overkill. The guitars on this album are very catchy and memorable, as is the chorus.
Band Name Overkill (USA). Album Name Necroshine. Total playing time: 53:43.
This album is the 10th studio album from Overkill, this album delivers plenty of heavy and brutal riffing, pounding drumbeats, and grinding bass lines. Overkill is a band that seems to not be affected by the mainstream, the material on this album does sound pretty similiar to some of their earlier stuff, but there are some wierd sounds and vocal parts on this album though. Necroshine (6:02) The song starts with some strange riffs that increases in speed and fast turns into a classic Kill riff. It stops and some wierd computer sound starts to play and it oddly sounds like a chopper, the shredding riffs kicks but the song slows down to a heavy pounding song.
