The Noisebox EP is Elbow's very first release and EP, limited to 150 copies. At the time, the band was still unsigned with any record label. It contains three early, original versions of songs ("Powder Blue", "Red" and "Can't Stop") that would be re-released and re-recorded on the full-length album Asleep in the Back, three years later. The other two songs "George Lassoes the Moon" and "Theme from Munroe Kelly" were never released on any full-length album.

Only a self-issued (now) ultra rare . and a compilation appearance of one of the songs document this period. In 2000 they put out their first release proper, an . on a small indie label Ugly Man Records before they were eventually signed to Richard Branson's V2 in 2001. Winner of the 2008 Mercury Prize (for best British album) for The Seldom Seen Kid. Drummer Richard Jupp left the band of his own choice to pursue drum tutoring in 2016. The band was first formed in while its members were secondary school and opted for the name Elbow in 1997. The band recorded a 5-track demo EP entitled Noisebox, named after the studio where it was recorded.
