Martin Lancelot Barre (/bɑːr/; born 17 November 1946) is an English rock musician best known for his work with progressive rock band Jethro Tull, with whom he recorded and toured from their second album in 1969 to the band's initial dissolution in 2012. In the early 1990s he went solo, and has recorded four studio albums and made several guest appearances. He has also played the flute and other instruments such as the mandolin, both on stage for Jethro Tull and in his own solo work.

Martin Barre has been the guitarist of Jethro Tull for 43 years, his sound and playing having been a major factor in their success. Album sales have exceeded 60 million units and they continue to be played worldwide, representing an important part of classic rock history. Martin’s guitar playing has earned him a high level of respect and recognition; he was voted 25th best solo ever in the USA and 20th best solo ever in the UK for his playing on 'Aqualung'. His playing on the album ‘Crest of a Knave’ earned him a Grammy award in 1988

The Martin Barre Band performs the title track from the 1975 eighth Jethro Tull studio album Minstrel In The Gallery. Steel Monkey (5:40) follows. The single is the lead track from 1987 Crest of a Knave. The Jethro Tull 16th album won the 1989 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Vocal or Instrumental, beating the heavily favored. And Justice for All by Metallica. Entertainment Weekly named Jethro Tull's win one of the 10 biggest upsets in Grammy history. The Martin Barre Band was live in concert at Harlow's, Sacramento, CA on September 8, 2017. Martin Barre is the former guitarist of Jethro Tull for 43 years, the longest tenure of any band member. From 1968 to 2011, his sound and playing greatly contributed to the classic rock group's success.

Martin Barre's skill with the guitar has never been in question, the backbone of Jethro Tull for 43 years illustrates that perfectly. His solo work has always been a bit different, as he explores the musical styles he enjoys. With Roads less travelled, it's his first album in recent years that hasn't contained something from the Tull back catalogue and in my opinion, it's better for it. He really is finding his feet as a songwriter, with this album and every track is well put together.

Martin Lancelot Barre (born 17 November 1946, Kings Heath, Birmingham, West Midlands, England) is an English rock musician. Barre has been the guitarist for rock band Jethro Tull since 1969. He has appeared on every Jethro Tull album except their debut This Was (1968). Barre has stated in interviews that guitarist Leslie West from American rock band Mountain was a direct influence on his playing. He has also acted as a flautist both on-stage for Tull, and in his own solo work.

Martin Barre – Immense. It’s hard to answer in one question. I’ve been doing this since I was 14. I’ll be 71 in Novembe. hat’s a lot of years, almost a lifetime in music. I’m grateful, I love it, I’ve had a great career. In fact, I’m having a great career. We went into the studio and recorded it live, and then the first studio album for my band is Back to Steel, and now we’re working on the next one. We’re going to finish off when we get back to the UK. It’s now my career, and Jethro Tull is finished and will never happen again.

Needed a band member to play the flute. Birchmere - Alexandria. True rock concert with great music, great drums, amazing guitars, strong vocals Could reduce the time of the concert, but glad to see some of the great members of Jethro Tull play.
