The Studebakers were Dunkard Brethren, conservative German Baptists, a religion that viewed war as evil. Longstreet's official company history simply says, "Henry was tired of the business. The risks of expanding were not for him". 26 Expansion continued from manufacture of wagons for westward migration, as well as for farming and general transportation. During the height of westward migration and wagon train pioneering, half of the wagons used were Studebakers. Once the Studebakers discovered this, John Mohler Studebaker enforced a primacy clause, forcing Garford back on to the scheduled production quotas. The decision to drop the Garford name was made and the final product rolled off the assembly line by 1911, leaving Garford alone until it was acquired by John North Willys in 1913.

It is not to be confused with the Starliner Hard-top 2-door coupe introduced for 1953 which was designed from 1951 under Robert E Bourke then head of Raymond Loewy Associates Studebaker design studio. 1947 Commander 5-passenger Coupe renamed Starlight for 1949. 1952 Champion Starlight Coupe. 1947 Commander Business Coupe. 1952 Commander Starliner Hardtop. When combined with the Starlight body style, Studebakers looked comparatively futuristic at the time. This version of the Starlight body style continued until the end of the 1952 model year, when it was sold side by side with a hardtop "Starliner" version of the same model. 1954 Champion Starliner Hard-top Hard-top for five passengers. 1954 Champion Starlight Coupe Coupe for five passengers. Studebaker Commander Regal Deluxe, 1953; Starliner Coupé and Studebaker Saloon, 1967, by Bob Marcks. Marcks was a designer with Raymond Loewy in 1953-54 during which time he proposed a Starliner based sedan. Later his own firm, Marcks, Hazelqist, and Powers (who did work for the company), proposed a range of possible future Studebakers which drew on the drop-snout look of the 1950s Starliner. The last Studebaker role off the line in March 1966.
