Opiate Sun is the fifth EP and tenth overall release by Jesu. It was released in America through Mark Kozelek's Caldo Verde label on 27 October 2009. Kozelek had been impressed by Justin Broadrick's performance when he saw him live in San Francisco in 2007, and approached Broadrick about putting a release out on Caldo Verde. Daymare Recordings released the album in Japan on 6 November 2009. The Daymare version of the album contains an exclusive bonus track.

Opiate Sun. (Caldo Verde). Releasing: 27 October (US). With bands like the Angelic Process, Alcest, and now Phil Elverum (aka Mount Eerie), a whole new world has opened up for heavy music, large in part because of Jesu mastermind Justin Broadrick’s tireless effort to not settle for the conventional sounds of metal. Oddly enough, it somehow makes sense that Opiate Sun, the EP on which this track is contained, will be released on Caldo Verde Records, Red House Painters/Sun Kil Moon songsmith Mark Kozelek’s imprint.

Album Name Opiate Sun. Type EP. 发布日期 27 十月 2009. 2. Opiate Sun. 07:09.

Despite a three-piece line-up originally planned for Opiate Sun, Broadrick giddied up his own horse and released it solo. This is the tenth release from Broadrick’s arguably most connecting project: Jesu. Unlike Godflesh which focuses more on raw atmosphere and mechanical metal layers, Jesu captures the essence of poignant emotions. Each song is so delicately built to accustom the listener’s lethargic profoundness. In other words, an Ep like Opiate Sun provides an apt environment for time to slow down and ponder various feelings. Only certain artists can convey truly emotional music.

Album · 2009 · 4 Songs. Appropriately enough, the EP is released on Sun Kil Moon’s and Mark Kozelek’s Caldo Verde label. Stylistically, Jesu often sound like a heavier version of Kozelek’s own obsessive tunes, with guitar notes repeating and steadily gaining in power. Losing Streak and the title track feature ominous grinds before giving way to the flowing melody of Deflated, a seven-minute track that opens up to unusual instrumental and harmonic beauty
