A Place to Bury Strangers is the debut studio album by American shoegazing band A Place to Bury Strangers, released on September 17, 2007. Most of the album's songs were recorded between 2004 and 2006 and were released as series of ad hoc EPs which were sold at shows by the band.

A Place To Bury Strangers was first formed in 2003 by David Goffan and Tim Gregorio, and was later joined by Oliver Ackermann. The band started to gain attention after their performance at Webster Hall with The Brian Jonestown Massacre in 2006. By 2007 they signed a contract (on a napkin) with Killer Pimp Records, followed shortly by the release of their first album A Place To Bury Strangers. That same year they set out on tour with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s Holy F k tour. The band continued to tour with carious other bands and in 2009 they signed with Mute Records. Composed of Oliver Ackerman, Dion Lunadon and Robi Gonzalez, they went through a number of lineup changes before releasing their first album.

And what A Place to Bury Strangers indeed do is write pop songs, with simple, traditional arrangements, primarily in slightly menacing minor keys, and saturated with their own unique brand of sonic mayhem. This is facilitated by the fact that their guitarist/singer designs his own effects pedals at his day job, allowing for a trademark-able and wide variety of signature bombastic sounds (he also does custom work for illustrious members of other similarly minded space rockers). The majority of the album keeps up the frenetic onslaught with which it opens, and even amongst the caustic thrash and thick slabs of sonic detritus there is an exhilaration, a catharsis, a beauty in the cacophony, and the listener is happily buried in the ear-splitting bliss.
