Roberta Flack is a 1978 album release by American vocalist Roberta Flack: her eighth album release - including her 1972 Donny Hathaway collaboration - Roberta Flack was the parent album of the Adult Contemporary hit "If Ever I See You Again" which also ranked in the Top 40. Since signing with Atlantic Records in 1968 Flack had overall abided by her original contract's terms of recording an album every two years: however Roberta Flack was recorded for release barely six months after Flack's.

The true gem in this collection to me is "Just When I Needed You", a sweet soul track taken from Roberta's rare 1981 soundtrack album to the Richard Pryor film Bustin' Loose. A young Luther Vandross makes a cameo on this truly rare classic, a song I thought I'd never hear on CD. I was overjoyed that it was included in this set.

By the time the 1980s rolled around, Peabo Bryson was a bona fide R&B/quiet storm star, and Born to Love further solidified his place in the upper echelon of not only R&B, but pop music as well. A full album of duets with Roberta Flack (who has the knack of pairing herself with quality singing partners), the most obvious hit on the record was the opening track. Tonight I Celebrate My Love" became a bona fide phenomenon on the R&B charts, became a highly requested wedding song, and has been licensed to numerous compilations over the years.
