Autry DeWalt Mixon Jr. (June 14, 1931 – November 23, 1995), known professionally as Junior Walker, was an American saxophonist and vocalist who recorded for Motown during the 1960s. Walker was born Autry DeWalt Mixon Jr. on June 14, 1931 in Blytheville, Arkansas, and grew up in South Bend, Indiana. He began playing saxophone while in high school, and his saxophone style was the anchor for the sound of the bands he later played in.

Find out more about the artist and the album. gr A Funk, Soul, Jazz & R&B digital record collection. Tally Ho is the only cut on this album that I’m not sure whether it made it & as a 45, but otherwise this set could have fairly been labeled a Greatest Hits. It supplied Junior and his men with a roster of sturdy hit singles that spanned better than a year and a half. Cleo’s Mood had originally been released on the Harvey Records label in 1962; well before that label was eventually folded into the Motown family. And Money Jump from September 1964, was the group’s first single release on Motown’s subsidiary Soul label after Walker signed with the company. Both of these brought.

Possessed of a raspy, untrained voice, Walker's singing nonetheless complemented the energy of his sax playing, and he cut a wealth of danceable, party hearty R&B for Motown during his heyday in the second half of the '60s.
