Maga Bo became aware of Samba de Coco Raízes de Arcoverde after receiving a a track entitled Afro-Brazilian awesomeness track 7 in an MP3 swap with fellow djs. It was, indeed, afro-brazilian awesomeness and he began including the track in his sets, mixing and fusing it with dembow riddims which eventually evolved into a full blown remix. The group ended up loving the remix – it was one of the only remixes that they had ever heard that brough a new sonic palette to the mix while still respecting and retaining the original rhythmic structure. Finally, in 2012, a booking at Rec-Beat in Recife brought Maga Bo to Pernambuco where he was finally able to meet the group in person. They agreed to try things out and record a few songs as an experiment. This eventually turned into many trips to Arcoverde and a full album.

Kafundó Apresenta Samba de Coco Raizes de Arcoverde REMIXED, 2018. Samba de Coco Raízes de Arcoverde. O Grilo (Tahira Remix), 04:30.
Hailing from Arcoverde, in the semi-arid desert interior of Pernambuco, Samba de Coco Raizes de Arcoverde was formed in 1992 by Lula Calixto and the Lopes sisters. Representing a unique form of regional northeastern Afro-Brazilian culture, they have performed all over Brasil, as well as in Belgium, France and Italy. Kafundó endeavoured to take their sound even further by calling in a cadre of heavy weight Brazilian DJs to remix the album. They went the distance, deftly and naturally situating the original rhythms, melodies, instruments and voices within the cutting edge world of modern electronic bass music - from the psychedelic, evolving arrangements of Psilosamples and Carrot Green to the digi-dancehall ragga cuts of Chico Correa to the moombahton oscillations of Lucio K. A very special ingredient of Samba de Coco Raizes de Arcoverde comes.

To produce the project, Maga Bo spent time in Arcoverde, in the semi-arid region of Pernambuco, in the company of Samba de Coco Raízes de Arcoverde, one of the oldest coco groups in Brazil, formed in 1992 by Lula Calixto and the sisters Lopes. The partnership resulted in this LP, Maga Bo Apresenta Samba de Coco Raízes de Arcoverde. The music preserves the original Afro-Brazilian rhythmic structure, but introduces some elements of electronic music. The harmony of the two is perfect
