Wieck's daughter, Clarca, the briUiant girl pianist, but Wieck persistently opposed a match which did not satisfy his ambitions for his daughter. Schumann spent the winter of 1838-1839 in Vienna, where he hoped to establish himself with Clara, but he was unable to cope with the intrigues which surrounded him on all sides, and returned to Leipzig in the spring of 1839. On February 24, 1840, he received the honorary degree of Dr. Phil, from the University of Jena. In the spring of 1844 Schumann accompanied his wife to Russia on a concert tour. In October of the same year they left Leipzig, and by the doctor's advice went to live in Dresden.
Concert sans orchestre 2 Quasi Variazioni: Andantino de Clara Wieck 21. Concert sans orchestre 3 Prestissimo possibile. Maurizio Pollini – piano. Schumann devotees will immediately recognise what follows as part of the work that eventually emerged in the early 1850s as his Piano Sonata No 3 in F minor. Pollini has chosen to remind us that though originally conceived as an expansive five-movement sonata, Schumann's publisher advised him to introduce it to the world in 1836 with its two Scherzos omitted under the curious title of Concert sans orchestre.

Revised version published September 1836 (both scherzos dropped, new finale, retitled Concert sans orchestre). Second (also?) and very substantial revision published in (but perhaps undertaken before) 1853, (very considerable revision especially of the first movement); entitled Grande sonate, with the second scherzo of the June 1836 sonata restored (but not the first - see Scherzo, H/K WoO 5,1). According to Daverio, throughout all this only the variations movement (on a theme of Clara Wieck
