Ruination shows Job for a Cowboy’s ability to mature their music and improve their overall songwriting skills. The thing is, they did do all of that, but not to the degree that I would expect out of a band with as much fame as Job for a Cowboy. Ruination expresses more technicality than Genesis, has more color, and is much less predictable as a whole. When I first listened to this album, I started with Summon the Hounds because the song name is actually pretty cool.

Genesis is the debut studio album by American death metal band Job for a Cowboy. Released on May 15, 2007 through Metal Blade Records, it is their first concept album and is based on possible consequences of the VeriChip, along with the Book of Revelation and apocalyptic theories. It also sees Job for a Cowboy's change into a more straightforward death metal based sound with their previous release, Doom being within the deathcore genre.

Job for a Cowboy have taken a lot of abuse from hou types for selling records to the wrong people. But judged purely as music, without worrying about who's listening to it and why, Ruination, like their last album, Genesis, is a very solid example of modern technical deathcore
