Putrifiers II is the thirteenth studio album by the American garage rock band Thee Oh Sees (and the seventh released under the full Thee Oh Sees name), released on September 11, 2012 on In The Red Records. John Dwyer's previous band Yikes recorded a song called "Putrifiers" for their 2006 album Secrets to Superflipping. This song had also had an influence on the Thee Oh Sees' "Ghost In The Trees" from 2008's The Master's Bedroom Is Worth Spending a Night In.

Thee Oh Sees - Putrifiers II (Album).
Putrifiers II can, essentially, act as an introduction to Thee Oh Sees. Dig the chugging bass, bleary falsetto, and simplistic ba ba ba chorus of Flood’s New Light ? Or do you prefer the pitch-perfect Velvet Underground single-chord swirls and violin icicles of So Nice ? Perhaps the droning spook and rifftastic glory of Lupine Dominus ? Take your pick, and you’ll be able to find some point in Thee Oh Sees’ catalog that’ll tickle your fancy. The problem of that sort of multi-faceted skill is that it detracts from the spine of the album and leads listeners elsewhere rather than inwards. In this case, Thee Oh Sees have repeated that challenge in a single album. Every track presents a new side of the band in quick succession, like pushing a magic Scan button on a radio and finding a paradoxically coherent choppiness. Essential Tracks: Flood’s New Light, Lupine Dominus.
In 2011, genre-shattering rockers Thee Oh Sees put a fractured spin on pop with Castlemania, returning later in the year with the wild experimentation of Carrion Crawler/The Dream EP. A year later, Putrifiers II lands somewhere in between, combining those aesthetics while bounding forward with new ideas and influences. On that heavier side, the title track and album centerpiece (for John Dwyer devotees, it's almost a sequel to the song "Putrifiers" from his mid-aughts distortion-drenched band Yikes) bounces back and forth between hippy-dippy vocals and corrosive guitar chugging, giving way to a synth/noise jam session outro, while the crunchy, motorik "Lupine Dominus" whizzes with Syd Barrett-esque.
