Streets - A Rock Opera is a music studio album recording by SAVATAGE (Progressive Metal/Progressive Rock) released in 1991 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. I bought it eight years ago, and it made me instantaneously be a Savatage's fan! And I'm still tinking that "Streets" is the best Savatage's album, and the best metal opera ever made.

Streets: A Rock Opera’, released in 1991, is the sixth studio album by American metal band Savatage. It sees the band further develop their unique style which incorporates huge influences from musicals and classical music, and features a concept based on the rise and fall of fictional musician . Coming at a time when metal was becoming stale to mainstream fans, it was no doubt a risky move by the band to continue this route, but the end result is one of their most highly revered and well-received albums

Streets: A Rock Opera (often simply shortened to Streets) is the sixth studio album by the American heavy metal band Savatage and is a rock opera dealing with the rise and fall of the fictional musician DT Jesus. It was originally released in October 1991 on Atlantic Records. The album took almost a year to record, with pre-production beginning in October 1990.

Streets is a landmark album in Savatage's career. They had already produced two albums with Paul O'Neill (Hall of the Mountain King and Gutter Ballet), and Streets became their first concept album, based on a novel that Paul had written. The story tells of a young musician who pays the bills as a drug dealer. He becomes known as Downtown Jesus (DT Jesus for short) as all the junkies saw him as their savior. From the atmospheric and chaotic opening track of Streets all the way to the final, delicate whisper in Believe, Streets: A Rock Opera stands as an under-appreciated classic of American metal, nay, of metal overall. I am the way, I am the light I am the dark inside the night I hear your hopes, I feel your dreams And in the dark I hear your screams Don't turn away, just take my hand And when you make your final stand I'll be right there, I'll never leave And all I ask of you is believe.

Streets was the first unified concept album from Savatage, to be later followed up by titles like Dead Winter Dead and Wake of Magellan. While there were certainly some recurrent themes on prior efforts, this is the first case of an actual, straight narrative coursing through. They wrote up a bunch of characters and a sequence of revelations and events that would create the same level of drama you'd find in an old Broadway show, so of course it's set in the stereotypical New York City location with a story of drug dealers, poverty, and redemption. Savatage were no more the astonishing power metal band most of us loved. Unfortunately, their next release, Streets a Rock Opera, destroyed all our expectations of revival. Still, when you come to think of it, Streets is not such a horrible album. It has got some nice songs and some beautiful ballads but it is NOT heavy metal.
